Lacoste is best known for the L.12.12 polo and the famous crocodile — but how does it fit, and what do those numbered sizes mean? This guide covers Lacoste's fit, the numeric sizing system, and a full chest-measurement chart.
How does Lacoste fit?
Lacoste's classic-fit polos — including the iconic L.12.12 — have a regular, slightly relaxed cut and fit true to size. Slim-fit styles sit closer to the body. Order your usual size; if you prefer a sharper look, size down or choose a slim fit.
Lacoste numeric sizing explained
Lacoste often labels sizes with numbers rather than S–XL. Here's how they convert:
3 = S • 4 = M • 5 = L • 6 = XL • 7 = 2XL • 8 = 3XL • 9 = 4XL
Lacoste size chart
| Size | Number | Chest (in) | Chest (cm) |
|---|---|---|---|
| S | 3 | 35–37" | 90–93 |
| M | 4 | 38–40" | 97–101 |
| L | 5 | 41–43" | 105–109 |
| XL | 6 | 44–46" | 113–117 |
| 2XL | 7 | 48–49" | 121–125 |
| 3XL | 8 | 51" | 129 |
| 4XL | 9 | 53" | 134 |
Approximate to-fit chest measurements. Always check the size guide on each product page for that item's exact measurements.
How to measure your chest
Wrap a tape measure around the fullest part of your chest, under the arms and across the shoulder blades. Keep it level and snug — not tight — then match the result to the chart above.
What is the L.12.12 polo?
The L.12.12 is the original short-sleeve petít piqué polo René Lacoste created in 1933, with the famous crocodile on the chest — the blueprint for the modern polo shirt.
