Sergio Tacchini at 60: The Track Tops, Explained

Sergio Tacchini has been making Italian sportswear since 1966, which makes 2026 its sixtieth year — and in six decades the track top has never stopped being the piece the label is built on. This guide covers the styles we stock, how the shapes and fabrics differ, and what size to take, from an official Sergio Tacchini stockist.

The short answer

Start with the Dallas or the Orion. They are the colour-blocked, contrast-tipped shapes most people picture when they think of a Sergio Tacchini track top, and they are the two we carry in the most colourways. If you want the plusher, tonal version, look at the velours — the Sartori, Tasso and Monte. Whichever you pick, size up.

Sixty years

A track top has been the signature since 1966. Sergio Tacchini built its name on Italian court and leisurewear, and the track top is the garment the label keeps returning to — a short zip or full zip, contrast tipping at the collar and cuffs, panels of flat colour and the Freccia arrow on the chest. Sixty years on, the styles below are still recognisably the same idea. Shop Sergio Tacchini track tops · All Sergio Tacchini

The Dallas

The one to buy first. The Dallas is the classic colour-blocked track top — three colours across the body, sleeves and tipping, in a smooth tricot rather than velour. It is the style we stock in the most colourways and the deepest sizes, which makes it the easiest one to actually get in your size. If you have never owned a Sergio Tacchini track top, this is the shape to start with.

The Orion

The Dallas's quieter sibling. The Orion runs on the same colour-blocked idea but tends to sit in more muted, wearable combinations — navy and stone, white and black — rather than the brighter pairings the Dallas gets. If you want the retro silhouette without the loudest colourway on the rail, this is the one. We carry it in three colourways.

The velours

Sartori, Tasso and Monte — the plush ones. These are the velour track tops, and they wear completely differently: heavier, softer, and usually tonal in a single colour rather than colour-blocked, so they read smarter than the tricot styles. The Sartori is the one we stock in the most depth, in three solid colours. If you want a track top that works over a shirt rather than a tee, take one of these. Sergio Tacchini vs FILA

The rest

Varena, Franco and Ghibli Davis round out the range. The Varena brings a lurex thread into the mix for something with a bit more shine, while the Franco and the Ghibli Davis are single-colourway styles we carry in smaller numbers. They move quickly and rarely come back in the same colour, so if one is in your size it is worth taking. Damarindo is a Sergio Tacchini style people ask for, but it is not one we currently stock.

How they fit

Size up. Sergio Tacchini tops run small against the label, and that includes the track tops. They are cut more generously than the t-shirts — the brand's own charts allow around two inches more room in the chest at the same letter size — but they still come up small, so take the next size for a comfortable, regular fit. Our full chest chart, with pit-to-pit measurements, is in the sizing guide. Sergio Tacchini sizing guide

Common questions

What is the difference between the Sergio Tacchini Dallas and Orion?
Both are colour-blocked tricot track tops in the same broad shape. The Dallas tends to come in the brighter, higher-contrast colourways and is the one we stock in the most colourways and sizes; the Orion usually sits in more muted combinations. Either is a good first Sergio Tacchini track top.
Do Sergio Tacchini track tops run small?
Yes. Sergio Tacchini tops run small against the label. Track tops are cut more generously than the t-shirts, with around two inches more room in the chest at the same letter size on the brand's own charts, but they still come up small, so size up for a comfortable regular fit.
Which Sergio Tacchini track tops are velour?
The Sartori, Tasso and Monte are the velour styles. They are heavier and softer than the tricot track tops and usually come in a single tonal colour rather than colour-blocked panels.
Do you stock the Sergio Tacchini Damarindo?
Not at the moment. The track tops we currently carry are the Dallas, Orion, Sartori, Tasso, Monte, Varena, Franco and Ghibli Davis.
How old is Sergio Tacchini?
The brand has been making Italian sportswear since 1966, so 2026 is its sixtieth year.
