Man wearing a Barbour International Essential polo shirt in sage green

Barbour International is one of the most popular brands we stock — but it comes in three different fits, so the right size depends on which you're buying. This guide covers how Barbour International fits, the three fits explained, a full chest-measurement size chart, and how to choose.

How does Barbour International fit?

Barbour International is the brand's slim, fashion-fit line — cut closer to the body than the classic Barbour heritage and wax-jacket range. It's offered in three fits, and which one you're buying decides your size. Always check the fit named on the product page, then use the guide below.

The three Barbour International fits

  • Slim Fit — cut close to the body and comes up small. Size up one for a true fit, especially if you want to layer underneath.
  • Regular Fit (also called comfort fit) — true to size, with room to move and layer. Order your usual size.
  • Tailored Fit — sits between the two: neater than regular but more forgiving than slim. True to size with a touch more room — not quite enough to size down, so stick with your usual size.

Barbour International size chart

Approximate to-fit chest measurements for Barbour International tops:

Size Chest (inches) Chest (cm)
S 35–37" 89–94 cm
M 38–40" 97–102 cm
L 41–43" 104–109 cm
XL 44–46" 112–117 cm
XXL 47–49" 119–124 cm
XXXL 50–52" 127–132 cm

Measurements are approximate to-fit chest sizes and vary by fit and style. Always check the size guide on each product page for that item's exact measurements.

How to measure your chest

Wrap a tape measure around the fullest part of your chest, under the arms and across the shoulder blades. Keep it level and snug — not tight — then match the result to the chart above.

Fit by product type

  • Polo shirts & t-shirts — usually a regular or slim fit; check the product page. Size up for slim styles.
  • Jackets & overshirts — this is where fit matters most. Slim-fit jackets come up small — size up, particularly if you want to layer. Regular and tailored jackets are true to size.
  • Sweatshirts & hoodies — regular fit, true to size.

Barbour International vs Barbour — not the same sizing

Quick but important: Barbour International is the slimmer, motorsport-heritage fashion line we stock here — it fits closer to the body than the main Barbour countrywear and wax-jacket range, which is cut fuller. Don't assume your size carries across from one to the other.
